Time for a bit of community brainstorming! Despite the probability that most of the members of this Ning are reasonably positive about the use of interactive whiteboards in their teaching, there a...

I had a visitor at our school today. They were visiting from South Africa on a fact finding mission to Australia, looking at how schools are using their IWBs. As we toured around the school and wa...

How does your IWB let you do New Things in New Ways?

I'm hoping I can get a bit of conversation and participation from the group on this one... I have always considered that IWB use evolves through three reasonably distinct phases; First, starting w...

Rob, the ideas you've suggested are a great start. I don't teach dance or drama, but I imagine that there would be great uses for using video of the students shown on the IWB and then using the pen tools to annotate over the top of the still-frame...

Hi Chris, I'm sorry I asked - I wasn't trying to be 'hung up' or 'dismissive' - I apologise for coming across as such. I asked about 'new" because the heading for this thread was 'doing new things in new ways' - as such, finding the 'new' seemed ...

Fun with a Wiimote

I know this site is meant mainly for discussions about the pedagogical aspects of teaching with an IWB, and not really the technical aspects, but I just wanted to share with you the results of my first dabble with a Wiimote IWB.

I had a great chat with Ben Jones yesterday, who heads up the global Wiimote Project. Ben explained the way a Wii Remote can be used with an Infrared pen to create an Interactive Whiteboard system for about $60. He even gave me one of his home-made IR pens to play with,… Continue

Starting a Revolution

Hello! This site has been created to do two main things... to form a community of innovative IWB users, and to start a revolution.

Firstly, we created this site as a place to build a global community of IWB users, a place to share ideas and experiences that might arise from reading the book The Interactive Whiteboard Revolution: Teaching with IWBs. The book, written by myself and Mal Lee, aims to be a comprehensive overview of interactive whiteboards and some of the issues that surround… Continue

Hi Chris,
I've posted information in the Forum about our call for papers for a special edition on IWBs in Australasia. More information here: http://wirelessready.nucba.ac.jp/CFP_AJETSE.pdf
Please consider contributing and/or circulate to anyone you feel might be interested.
Now is a great time, given the interest in IWBs in the region, to publish some case studies and empirical research papers on the subject.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Michael

Hi Chris, you may or may not remember me but I’m a member of Oz teachers and a few months back when I inquired about interactive whiteboards you sent me some draft chapters from your new book. Thanks again for your support. My new whiteboard was installed today. We ended up with a Hitachi Smartboard. As soon as a new laptop arrives next week I’ll be up and running. Not sure how exactly to use this new tool yet but it should be a lot of fun finding out. Thanks for your invite to this community, Regards Rod

Thanks for the reply, Chris, which was what I really expected, as a virtual moderator myself. Camping. Days away. Sneaky spammer. Puff of smoke. I agree totally with your philosophy about freedom of expression and crap!

Things should still be movable in powerpoint if you export from ACTIVstudio.

You choose Flipchart - Export - Powerpoint - Maintain Seperate Objects

This should maintain the general integrity of your file when you import it into Interwrite. Sometime some of the formating changes at bit but I have found that if you export from ACTIVstudio (rather than SMART) this is minimised.

This was the workflow I followed when I had to make the files for my IWB book in SMART, ACTIV and Interwrite format. I would make it is SMART, open the SMART file with ACTIVstudio and 'saveas' then export to powerpoint and open the powerpoint in interwrite.

Cheers

Peter

From memory Interwrite imports Powerpoint without too much of a problem, which is handy as SMART and ACTIVstudio export to powerpoint.

Hi Chris,

Are you all set for NZ? Happy to have a chat if you want. I am taking the day off tomorrow to prepare my stuff. So I expect that I will log onto this ning regularly during the day.

I usually find that Sitech is both relaxed in atmosphere and yet of high quality intellectually. New Zealanders as a rule really know how to teach.

I am expecting it will be a great time.

Cheers

Peter
